On April 18, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Venezuela as part of his tour of Latin American countries.
During the visit, which took place in a traditionally friendly atmosphere, the Russian Foreign Minister had a meeting with President Nicolas Maduro and held detailed talks with Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil.
The parties underscored their mutual satisfaction with the dynamic development of political dialogue and practical cooperation within the framework of their strategic partnership. They discussed the implementation of joint trade, economic and investment projects and coordinated steps aimed at building up ties in research, sports, culture and tourism.
They reaffirmed their shared intention to continue closely coordinating their approaches at multilateral venues, including collaboration within the Group of Friends in Defence of the Charter of the United Nations, in the interests of ensuring the supremacy of international law, creating a more just polycentric international order, and maintaining global stability and security.
The parties resolutely denounced the use of unilateral restrictive measures as a tool for bringing pressure to bear on sovereign states and as a factor in destabilising the international situation.
The Russian side expressed its invariable support for the Maduro Government’s efforts to stabilise the situation at home.
