Elena Panina appreciated reports of US ships in the Black Sea

Russian politicians assessed possible US plans to send warships to the Black Sea “as a sign of support for Ukraine.”

Earlier, CNN reported that Washington is considering this option because of the alleged “increase in Russian military activity” on the border with Ukraine.

According to Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, such a step would aggravate the situation around Donbass.

“This will be a signal not to Russia, but to Ukrainian national radicals. A signal that creates false illusions among this public,” she said.

The deputy also drew attention to how the American military “often with great alarm, very, very nervous, perceive the inevitable appearance of Russian colleagues in such cases.”

“There have already been precedents of this kind in the Black Sea, it is enough to recall the panicky reaction of the crew of the American destroyer Donald Cook to the approach of the Russian Su-24 in April 2014. Probably, it would be better for the Americans themselves not to create grounds for such situations to recur,” stated Panina.
