Vyacheslav Nikonov: Putin and Modi agreed on almost everything they wanted to agree on

The most important event of the day took place today in New Delhi, where negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been successfully completed.

The fact that Putin went there personally, I consider the most important factor in world politics. In India, personal contacts play a huge role, sometimes more than geopolitical alignments.

What are the geopolitical alignments?

India is the third largest economy in the world, and they are moving forward very sharply.

Plus, it is the third largest army in the world, and it also has nuclear weapons.

This is the most powerful center of power on which the balance on the planet largely depends.

The United States is making colossal efforts to draw India into its own orbit of influence. For this, a whole concept of the Indo-Pacific region was invented instead of the APR. For this, QUAD was invented – a four-way strategic dialogue between the USA, India, Australia and Japan.

All these American moves are going well because India has a very difficult relationship with China, and the United States is pulling India into anti-Chinese games.

For our part, we in Russia have tried to make India join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and be our partner in the BRICS.

India has a very advanced political class and a well-thought-out political culture. Therefore, Putin and Modi agreed on almost everything they wanted to agree on, and we have achieved much more in military-technical cooperation than with any other country.

Yes, the Americans are trying to drag India into an anti-Russian game. But India is not ready to join it. We have a unique relationship history. We are two great powers, between which – the only ones on the planet – not only war, but also a real confrontation has never happened. And this is our huge political reserve.
