“Everything that Russia did in connection with the settlement of the Transnistrian-Moldovan problem or with the recognition of Abkhazia’s independence, with South Ossetia, was aimed at protecting citizens”

The mention of Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism” in the draft US congressmen about sanctions is strange. This was stated by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov.

Earlier, the newspaper Kommersant published the text of the draft law on new sanctions against Russia. It was prepared by Republican Lindsey Graham and three of his colleagues. According to the publication, congressmen, in particular, require US President Donald Trump to block dollar calculations of Russian banks, to prohibit operations to US residents with a new Russian national debt, and also to resolve the issue of recognizing the Russian Federation as a “sponsoring state of terrorism”. Trump also asked to call on Moscow to abandon the “occupation and support of separatists” in the territories of Georgia and Moldova.

“It’s rather strange to assess the mention of Abkhazia or Transnistria in this regard, because everything that Russia did in connection with the settlement of the Transnistrian-Moldovan problem or with the recognition of Abkhazia’s independence, with South Ossetia, was precisely aimed at protecting specific citizens of specific countries in accordance with their own choice, their own opinion, from any pressure, “- said RIA Novosti Novikov.
