Dmitry Novikov appreciated the call of US senators to declare Russia a “sponsor of terrorism”

There is no need to pay attention to such statements by American senators, since this would distract Russian political institutions from solving real problems. Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Izvestia on Thursday, December 16, commenting on the proposal of US Senator Jim Risch to declare the Russian Federation a sponsor of terrorism.

“If we react to all the proposals of American senators that are being discussed there to obtain an internal political effect, then we will not be able to carry out our professional duties – this applies to the government, the State Duma and the Foreign Ministry. If such initiatives had acquired the character of adopted decisions, then they should have been responded to, ”he said.

The MP noted that the US establishment has set certain parameters of behavior for everyone who has entered the “big American politics”. The anti-Russian trend is stable, so some of the congressmen and senators, trying to follow it, will endlessly generate various ideas with an anti-Russian tinge, Novikov concluded.

On the eve it became known that the Republican Senator Risch proposed to declare Russia a “sponsor of terrorism”, as well as to send the Kiev authorities $ 450 million, which should go to support the armed forces of Ukraine next year.

Eight more Senators from the US Republican Party, Jim Inhof, Marco Rubio, Pat Tomie, John Barrazo, John Cornin, Tom Cotton, Rob Portman, and Bill Hagerty, also supported the draft law presented by Riche.

The document emphasizes that lawmakers take into account the “build-up” of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, and are also concerned about the potential threat of an “invasion in mid-January.”

On December 15, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that Russia would face serious economic sanctions from the United Kingdom and the G7 in general in the event of an “invasion of Ukraine”.

On the same day, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union is ready, in cooperation with partners, including the United States, to expand sanctions against the Russian Federation in the event of an escalation of the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, the head of the European Commission stressed that the EU wants good relations with Russia, but “everything depends on its actions.”

On December 13, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that there was no Russian invasion of Ukraine and could not be. He stressed that what Russia is carrying out on its territory, the West does not concern. So he commented on the information of foreign media about the transfer of the Armed Forces within the Russian Federation.
