Dmitry Belik: NATO saves the world from imaginary crises and creates real ones

NATO countries, in an effort to resist Russia, are trying to find points of tension where the bloc’s influence could be strengthened, State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik told NEWS.ru. So he commented on the statement of the Italian General Giovanni Iannucci, who proposed Iraq as a new territory for confrontation between the Russian Federation and NATO. The parliamentarian reminded the Alliance of the price of “Iraqi freedom” after the US invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

As they say, everything new is a well-forgotten old. What was the price of “Iraqi freedom” after the American invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the whole world remembers well. Now, representatives of the NATO countries hypocritically say that they will not repeat the same mistakes, and justify their actions by the growing influence of Russia and Iran, and, in fact, saving the world from imaginary crises, they are creating real crises, Belik believes.

The MP noted that NATO is constantly looking for a reason for another escalation. According to Belik, if the situation does not go according to plan, the collective West thinks about where else it is possible to create a hotbed of tension and in which country to transfer the conflict.

In an interview with the Repubblica newspaper, Italian General Giovanni Iannucci said that against the background of the growing influence of Russia, NATO should focus on Iraq. According to him, the bloc should cooperate with local authorities and avoid a position that could indicate attempts by the West to intervene militarily in the affairs of the country.
