Dmitry Novikov, in an interview with TASS, spoke in favor of developing an effective mechanism for protecting human rights in Russia

“In the domestic Russian political and legal field, the legislative space of Russia, we must attend to the development of worthy mechanisms that will protect human rights. In social, political, electoral terms, we are not all right, and there is a lot of work to be done so that we can say that Russia has made progress in these matters,” he said.

At the same time, Novikov noted that it was impossible to work in this direction with an organization whose majority of the participating countries support the Nazi Kyiv regime.

“Some time ago, EU members took a course to support the Nazi regime in Ukraine, and Nazism and human rights are generally incompatible things. Today, Western countries do not follow the principles and norms that were previously developed jointly and in solidarity. And if such an anti-human political regime is supported by European structures, then it is quite ridiculous and strange to talk about developing mechanisms for the protection of human rights together with them,” the deputy noted.

The parliamentarian is also confident that the decision to terminate the international treaties of the Council of Europe in the Russian Federation will be widely supported in Russia. “The objective conditions have ripened for such a decision to be made, and to contribute financial resources, to support politically, administratively, legally, an organization that, by virtue of the position of the majority of its participants, takes an absolutely anti-Russian position, would be rather strange at this stage,” he summed up.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday submitted to the State Duma a draft law on the termination of international treaties of the Council of Europe with respect to Russia. The project provides for the termination of the operation in Russia, including the statute of the Council of Europe, the convention for the suppression of terrorism and the convention for the protection of human rights. In total, it is proposed to denounce 21 documents
