The world community should respond to the statement of US National Security advisor John Bolton about the readiness to impose sanctions against the International Criminal Court.
Member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak (“United Russia”) commented on this.
“The world community is obliged to react to the statement of the official representative of Washington. We should not allow US pressure on international institutions of law and should firmly suppress such attempts to undermine the basis of the world security system,” – he said.
The US authorities intend to have a completely free hand and to put themselves above the law, declaring superiority over international law, the parliamentarian said.
Bolton’s statement evokes resentment and is a serious challenge to the international community, that should be brought to attention in other countries and legal organizations including the UN, Mr. Zheleznyak said.
“Bolton obviously intends to be inscribed in the memoryby the most radical ideas and has aimed at the International Criminal Court, which competence includes the prosecution of those responsible for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity. Apparently, we should expect the next step, when the US will impose sanctions against the UN itself” the deputy thinks.
