First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, a deputy from the Communist Party faction, Dmitry Novikov, told the Duma TV correspondent that the DPRK and South Korea “have made very serious progress in the negotiation process.” According to him, the old “dream of the Korean people about unity” can be thwarted due to the opposition of several countries.
“Important steps towards each other have been undertaken, they can and should be welcomed. But we must also understand that in this part of the world there are very serious international interests. Let’s not forget that there are military bases of the United States of America on the territory of South Korea. Therefore, the more active the inter-Korean dialogue is, the more worrying it can cause in Washington,” Dmitriy Novikov believes.
“I do not exclude that actions will be taken to disrupt the negotiation process, which is now quite efficient,” he added.
At the same time, the parliamentarian noted that by expanding cooperation and cooperation, both countries “count on partnership and equal relations, and not on the absorption of one by another by Korea.”
Note that in the recently signed military agreement in Pyongyang between the two Korean states, the DPRK and the Republic of Korea, in particular, decided to withdraw the military from the demilitarized zone and disarm the personnel of the border point of Panmunjom. The document was signed by the defense ministers of the two countries in the presence of the presidents.
