On September 24, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Current issues concerning the Organisation’s activities were reviewed, with a focus on the results of the Portuguese diplomat’s tenure as UN Secretary-General.
Sergey Lavrov emphasised the importance of a carefully considered reform of the UN to adapt it to the realities of a multipolar world order, to ensure significantly broader representation in the Secretariat for nationals of the countries of the Global Majority, and to ensure that UN officials discharge their duties in an impartial and even-handed manner. He also stressed the inadmissibility of eroding the intergovernmental character of the Organisation and of undermining the division of labour between its principal bodies.
Sergey Lavrov handed António Guterres a report titled Heirs of Goebbels: Falsification of the Events in Bucha and Bloody Staged Performances of the Kiev Regime, prepared by the International Public Tribunal led by its Chairman, Maxim Grigoryev, a member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation. The report is devoted to exposing the fabrications circulated by the Kiev regime concerning the alleged massacre in Bucha. The minister demanded that the UN Secretariat conduct a detailed examination of the facts of the staged provocation carried out by Kiev and its NATO sponsors.
