Sergey Zheleznyak: “The West, by supporting destructive forces in Kosovo, creates the ground for the outbreak of armed conflict in the region”

The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Serbia, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Sergey Zheleznyak, called the visit of the President of Russia to Serbia strategically important. The politician noted that the meeting of the two leaders is taking place against the background of an extremely unstable international situation and the aggravation of the situation directly on the Balkan Peninsula.

“The West’s demand for Belgrade to recognize Kosovo’s independence, as well as the self-proclaimed Kosovo’s intention to form its own army, which is supported by destructive forces in Washington, Brussels and NATO, aggravates the situation, creating the ground for the outbreak of armed conflict in the region. Our head of state today once again gave a clear signal that Russia will continue to support the independence and territorial integrity of Serbia, calls on the West to abandon the political blackmail of sovereign countries and strongly oppose the creation of Kosovo’s armed forces that directly violate the UN Security Council resolution. We constantly draw the attention of the international community to the destructive steps of the USA, which support separatist forces in the Balkans, encroaching on the legitimate interests of the Serbian people. We insist on the leading role of the United Nations in the Kosovo settlement, preserving the status quo established by UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and oppose the imposition of separate agreements with Pristina by the West to Belgrade. The President of Russia particularly focused on the right of Serb police and border guards in Kosovo’s resolution 1244, ”the politician added.

According to the deputy: “The Russian and Serbian peoples demonstrate to the world community the highest level of friendship, mutual interest in developing and strengthening good neighborly relations, deepening partnerships in all possible areas of the economy and the humanitarian sphere. We deeply respect the policy of neutrality and military neutrality of Serbia and the refusal to join Western anti-Russian sanctions. This was once again demonstrated today during the visit to Serbia by the head of our state. ”

“The conclusion of a whole package of agreements between our countries, including projects in the field of nuclear science, energy, innovation, technology, education, infrastructure projects, as well as the intention to sign an agreement on Belgrade free trade zone with the EAEU this year, has become extremely important.

Of particular importance is the intention to expand the supply of Russian gas to Serbia, which fully corresponds to the national interests of our countries, despite the pressure of Russophobes from Europe and the US, which impose expensive liquefied gas on Serbia.

Increasing Russian gas supplies to Serbia will increase the level of economic cooperation between our countries and strengthen Serbia’s energy security, making the country more independent and strong, ”the MP said.

“The warmth with which Serbia accepted the president of our country clearly demonstrates the high level of spiritual and cultural community of our fraternal peoples. I hope this will help realize the enormous potential of cooperation and will give Serbia strength, despite pressure from the West, to preserve its sovereignty, traditional values and territorial integrity, ”the politician emphasized.
