As Komsomolskaya Pravda’s first deputy chairman of the Duma’s international affairs committee, Svetlana Zhurova, said, Russia is winning the information war because, unlike “Western partners,” it does not produce fakes:
– Of course, our media try to somehow convey the truth. But the most important thing in our truth is that we do not make fake news. And so different from foreign media. Just the other day we heard that even the producer of the [British TV and Radio Company] BBC admitted that the events in the Syrian city of Duma were falsified, Zhurova said (referring to the provocation with alleged “use of chemical weapons” near Damascus in April 2018, after which an international coalition led by the United States struck a blow at military and civilian objects controlled by the legitimate government of Syria).
“This is what makes us different: we are telling the truth,” continued Zhurova. – And do not impose it by force. As soon as we show at least minimal strength, we are immediately told: “aggression!”. Therefore, we are more for “soft power.” It is not typical of a Russian person to be aggressive. In our culture this is not. Perhaps that is why we manage to hold such wonderful international events as, for example, the Sochi 2014 Olympics. Today, five years since its inception, and all the guests and athletes still remember how they were fascinated by both Russia and the level of organization, the deputy stressed.
The KP conversation with the first deputy chairman of the parliamentary Committee on International Affairs took place on the fields of the Diplomatic Games – a competition of employees of foreign embassies in Russia in winter sports, which has been held for the twentieth year by the Main Department for Servicing the Diplomatic Corps (GlavUpDK) at the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation. Report on this event in the “Komsomolskaya Pravda” in the near future.
