The international agenda of the State Duma is the projection of the president’s international agenda on the plane of parliamentary diplomacy. This was stated by the head of the International Committee of the State Duma Leonid Slutsky before the official opening of the first international forum “Development of parliamentarism” in Moscow.
“We managed to gather an unprecedented International Forum” Development of parliamentarism “, and we hope that it will become a stem on the foreign policy agenda of the State Duma, while this agenda is a projection of the foreign president’s agenda on the plane of parliamentary diplomacy,” Slutsky said.
He noted that the forum poses an ambitious task to gather in the framework of interparliamentary diplomacy a circle of friends of Russia to address the pressing problems that are on the international agenda today.
The parliamentarian pointed out that eight bilateral meetings between State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and the speakers of foreign parliaments and the leadership of international parliamentary structures were held on Sunday, interesting general positions on various agendas have already been developed.
“I am sure that the XXI century will be a century of parliamentary diplomacy and the forum will become one of the most constructive inter-parliamentary platforms on the planet. And it is important that the forum takes place in Moscow and parliamentarians from almost one hundred countries of the world can communicate their positions on different topical dossiers, “said Slutsky.
According to him, parliamentarians in these countries will know the real position of Russia on different issues, rather than the one they are being imposed by opponents in local media.
“We must wait for tomorrow’s evening, when a declaration will be adopted, which for years to come will determine the path of our interparliamentary cooperation,” the MP stressed and added that the importance of the passing event can not be overestimated, because it unites representatives of all continents of the planet.
