Dmitry Novikov: “The meeting between Putin and Kim Jong-yn will affect the interaction of the DPRK with other countries”

The meeting of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with the head of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, is of great importance for the interaction of Pyongyang with other states. About this in an interview with “Duma TV” said the first deputy chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, a deputy from the Communist Party faction Dmitry Novikov.

The parliamentarian noted that the potential for cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which was founded in the Soviet era, could be revealed at a new stage of development.

“All talk of the DPRK as a state behind the Iron Curtain is an exaggeration. Today, Pyongyang demonstrates readiness for the widest development of economic, commercial, cultural ties with neighboring states, ”Novikov said.

Thus, according to the parliamentarian, the attempts of the United States and its allies using sanctions policy to limit the possibility of DPRK interaction with other states should be overcome. “This meeting (Putin and Kim Jong UN. – ed.) From this point of view can be of enormous importance and a big role,” the deputy said.

The closed meeting between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un was held on Thursday, April 25. Following the talks, the Russian leader called the conversation thorough. Vladimir Putin noted that during the talks, in particular, issues of the development of bilateral relations, as well as the topic of regulating the situation on the Korean Peninsula, were touched upon.
