Elena Panina commented on the results of the meeting between Putin and Erdogan in Sochi

Russia is making a constructive contribution to the settlement of the Turkish-Kurdish conflict, in particular, it acts as a guarantee of stability, said Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, commenting on the results of the meeting of the leaders of the Russian Federation and Turkey in Sochi.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday in Sochi adopted a memorandum on the situation in Syria, which, according to leaders, will allow to resolve a rather acute situation on the Syrian-Turkish border. According to the document, the Russian military police and the Syrian border services will facilitate the withdrawal of units of Kurdish self-defense units and their weapons 30 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border, after which Russian-Turkish patrols will begin at a depth of 10 kilometers from the border to the west and east of the operation area ” Source of Peace “, except for the city of Kamyshly.

“Russia is bringing a constructive tone to the process of resolving the Turkish-Kurdish conflict. Today we have witnessed another significant victory for Russian foreign policy. Our country, represented by the head of state, once again offers a peaceful agenda, guarantees stability and demonstrates the ability to have a positive impact on the situation in the Middle East region.” , – quotes Zheleznyak his press service.
He noted that the memorandum of understanding signed as a result of the dialogue between the leaders of Russia and Turkey will become a “road map” for transferring the conflict situation on the Turkish-Syrian border to the stage of peace negotiations.
“It is extremely important that President Erdogan assured Turkey’s readiness to follow the UN Security Council resolutions and the agreements reached within the framework of the Astana process,” the deputy said.

Zheleznyak stressed that Russia and Turkey jointly aimed at maintaining the territorial integrity and statehood of Syria, contributing to the formation and work of the constitutional committee.
In turn, Zheleznyak’s colleague, a member of the State Duma’s foreign affairs committee, Elena Panina, said that Russia had proposed an extremely balanced solution – to resolve the Syrian-Turkish conflict on the basis of the 1998 Adana Pact.
“The Adana Accords, concluded during the period of good neighborly relations between Turkey and Syria, provide a compromise for all participants in the peace process,” Panina wrote on her Facebook page.

The parliamentarian added that Russia has consolidated its position in Syria.
“Moscow has found the key to solving the most complicated contradictions between Damascus, Ankara and the Kurds. Syria maintains sovereignty over the territory, Turkey – the security of the border, the Kurds – taking into account their interests in the framework of the Astana process,” Panina said.
