Dmitry Novikov believes that the United States is trying to prevent the integration of the countries of the former USSR

The United States continues to attempt to interfere with the integration processes in the post-Soviet space. This was stated by the first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Dmitry Novikov.

The parliamentarian, commenting on the talks of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, noted that Washington is pursuing its interests in the republics of the former USSR.

“The United States is solving the fundamentally important task of blocking possible integration processes in this territory,” Novikov said.

He emphasized that the program of the Pompeo trip included not only Belarus, but also Ukraine, as well as the countries of Central Asia.

“The USA is persistently and consistently implementing its foreign policy tasks, and in this regard we have something to learn from them,” the State Duma deputy is sure.

In his opinion, Washington demonstrates its readiness to reset relations with Minsk in order to solve its geopolitical and commercial tasks.

“The United States is ready to revise its approaches and practice of pressure on Belarus through accusations of undemocratic Belarusian political system,” Novikov said.

The parliamentarian considers Pompeo’s statement about the progress of democracy in Belarus as cunning.

“All the necessary hints are made, all the necessary illusions that Trump and his team would like to plant on the Belarusian side are made,” the politician said.

At the same time, he added that in Minsk they perfectly “understand the price of American promises.”

“I think that common sense will be enough here to build foreign and domestic policies with an understanding of what the United States and the promises of its state leaders are,” Novikov concluded.
