Sergey Zheleznyak: “The defeat of the Democrats in the US Senate does not mean that they are ready to surrender”

“The defeat of the Democrats in the US Senate does not mean that they are ready to give up and stop trying to get rid of the Republican president,” said Sergei Zheleznyak, member of the State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

The politician noted: “Now, Trump’s opponents will focus on working with the electorate, will use all the remaining trump cards. Most likely, in the near future there will be new “disclosures” and witnesses who are ready to speak out against Trump and his policies. The confrontation between Trump and his opponents will only increase in the period remaining before the election.

It is obvious that the president celebrating the victory today understands the need to increase activity in working with voters. Now Trump needs a new victory, and if he doesn’t manage to achieve it in domestic politics, he will rush to “win” the foreign arena. The methods of Trump’s foreign policy are already known, so there is likely to be another series of trade wars, attempts to put pressure on Iran, increase spending on the army and impose some kind of sanctions, as a demonstration of American power.”
