ELENA PANINA: POLISH AUTHORITIES DO EVERYTHING BEFORE THE EU BECOMES A PLACE FOR DIALOGUE

The Polish authorities are doing everything to ensure that the European Union does not become a platform for cooperation and dialogue, said Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (Faction “United Russia”), commenting on the statement by the Polish Foreign Minister about the threat to the EU from Russia.

Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Chaputović, speaking at a panel discussion in Munich, called Russia a threat to the European Union and the national interests of its member countries.

According to Panina, the threat to the European Union as a global player with its own interests and strategic goals comes precisely from Poland, and not from Russia.

“The future of the European Union, the prospects of its geopolitical subjectivity depend on whether it can play a constructive role in creating a space of cooperation and dialogue. The Polish authorities are doing everything possible to prevent this from happening, ”Panina told RIA Novosti.

According to the deputy, under the authority of supporters of the head of the Polish ruling party, Law and Justice, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Poland has become the “black hole of Europe”, a factor in the destruction of all attempts to establish economic and political cooperation between Russia and the EU.

“It is naive to see in Poland a small country obsessed with the“ phantom pains ”of the past. On the contrary, the current Polish authorities are charged with the idea of revenge for the historical defeats of past centuries, dream of dominating in Eastern Europe, of reconstructing in modern formats the Polish empire, similar to the medieval Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, where Ukraine and Belarus will be assigned the role of vassals of Warsaw. Today it is this plan of Warsaw that represents one of the main threats to the future of the European Union, ”Panina concluded.

Statements about the “Russian threat” periodically come from Western politicians, most often from the Baltic countries and Poland. Moscow has repeatedly stressed that Russia will never attack any of the NATO countries. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, NATO is well aware of Moscow’s lack of plans to attack anyone, but just use the excuse to place more equipment and battalions near Russian borders. Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern about the buildup of alliance forces in Europe.
