The proposal of the Minister of Defense of Germany, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, to create a new format for a settlement in Libya is more a political game than a real desire for peace, said First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Dmitry Novikov.
“Moscow has already become a platform for the negotiation process of key figures in ending the political confrontation in Libya. I am sure that there is every opportunity to strengthen the role of the Russian Federation in returning this country to normal peaceful life. We have made the necessary groundwork. The most important thing is that we are interested in this the Libyan people themselves, “Novikov said on Sunday to Interfax.
He noted that “any proposals that follow the Libyan issues from our European partners, first of all require a reminder that the capitals of Europe did not show the necessary principles in a situation where the United States invaded the territory of this sovereign state and destroyed the statehood of Libya.”
According to Novikov, “the positive thing in the initiative that sounds from Berlin can only be recognized as the fact that the United States is not called among the states that can seriously act in the interests of resolving the Libyan problem.”
However, as the parliamentarian drew attention, “in a strange way, Russia is not called.”
“Therefore, it is not so much the thought-out actions of those who are interested in bringing peace to Libya, but political games of forces that fear the further strengthening of Russia in this region,” said the committee’s first deputy chairman.
Earlier, Secretary of Defense Annegret Crump-Carrenbauer, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, proposed creating a new format for stabilization in Libya with the participation of the Eurotroika (Germany, France, Great Britain) and Italy.
