Dmitry Novikov: “The younger generation should have access to reliable historical facts”

The younger generation should have access to reliable historical facts, Dmitry Novikov, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, emphasized commenting in an interview with Duma TV on the initiative of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to declare victory in the Second World War a historical heritage of mankind.

“It is necessary that the assessments of the results of the Second World War, both in terms of the defeat of Nazi Germany, and in terms of the defeat of Japanese militarism, be recorded and adequately perceived by new generations who are just entering into life, are just beginning to study history. So that they gain access to this historical knowledge in its original and not in a distorted form, ”said Dmitry Novikov.

The parliamentarian emphasized that international legal acts in the framework of the fight against falsification of history are of fundamental importance. Now, for example, the results of the Nuremberg trials are helping “at least partially to combat attempts at fascist revenge in a number of states,” the deputy recalled.

“The idea of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to fix the results of World War II with relevant documents is an extremely important initiative,”
summarized Novikov.

Earlier in his speech at the 43rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, the Russian Foreign Minister said that the time had come to stop the “bacchanal of unconsciousness” when civilized Europe “was bashfully silent, watching the blasphemous war with monuments and memorials in honor of those who at the cost of life saved the peoples of the continent from complete extermination. ”

Russia previously invited the heads of delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to sign a declaration on the protection of historical memory.
