Sergey Zheleznyak: “The talks between Russia and Turkey at the highest level have proved the readiness of the two countries to jointly find a way out of difficult situations”

“The agreements reached during the long and very difficult negotiations between the leaders of Russia and Turkey will help reduce the level of escalation in the area around Idlib and resolve the crisis in Syria as a whole.” This opinion was expressed by a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Sergey Zheleznyak.

“The negotiations at the highest level proved the readiness of the two countries to jointly find a way out of extremely difficult situations, while maintaining a level of mutual trust. Our country, represented by the head of state, has once again demonstrated a leading role in resolving complex international issues exclusively by peaceful means, ”the politician added.

“The ceasefire regime, which is introduced on the night of March 6 as a result of the agreements reached, will be the starting point for transferring the conflict into the mainstream of the negotiation process and help prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. The most important point of the additional protocol is the creation of a security corridor that will help the withdrawal of civilians from the zone of military clashes. Joint patrolling of the Syrian territory defined in the protocol by the military of Russia and Turkey will become the key to stability in the region and preservation of the cessation of hostilities.

At the same time, the most important result of the talks was the consolidation by both sides of the principles of maintaining the territorial integrity, unity and independence of Syria on the basis of decisions of the UN Security Council. It is also obvious that the fight against terrorists remains one of the key tasks of the guarantor countries of a peaceful settlement in Syria to achieve stable peace in the entire Middle East region, ”said Zheleznyak.
