Ukrainian officials, making statements about the return of the Crimea, think about their own careers, while demonstrating complete isolation from realities, said Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk told the Ukrainian media that he suggested the ex-Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder to bet on the return of Crimea to Kiev. Earlier, Schroeder, in an interview with Tagesspiegel, expressed the view that no Russian president would ever give Crimea to Ukraine. The former chancellor also called for the lifting of the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the EU in 2014, and emphasized that cooperation with Moscow is especially necessary in the current economic situation.
“Many Ukrainian officials today are not thinking about their country, but about their future careers in Soros’s structures, for the sake of which they give out meaningless and stupid statements to the right and left,” Panina told RIA Novosti.
In her opinion, Melnik’s statement resembles the statement of ex-Defense Minister Valery Geletey, who promised in 2014 to hold an Armed Forces parade in “Ukrainian Sevastopol”.
“It’s known how it ended. The Ukrainian troops were defeated in the Donbass …”, Panina said.
According to the politician, such “continuity” in the statements testifies to the complete isolation from the realities of the current Kiev authorities.
