This is not the first time that US attempts to ensure military dominance in the Arctic lead to curious situations. So the State Duma deputy, director of the Institute of International Political and Economic Strategies – RUSSTRAT Elena Panina commented on the information about the unsuccessful campaign of the American and British destroyers in the Barents Sea, where equipment and even weapon systems were out of order in ships in the cold.
“Exactly three years ago, the Joint Viking 2017 exercises on the Russian-Norwegian border also ended in embarrassment for the American military, who froze during maneuvers due to the inability of the equipment to the conditions of the polar latitudes: their clothes cracked at the seams, and US marines had to be insulated with fabrics to parachutes.
It remains only to sympathize with the NATO military, who were abandoned during the pandemic to work out aggressive scenarios against Russia. I don’t want to draw analogies with the German Wehrmacht, whose soldiers experienced the blows of “General Frost”, putting German newspapers under their greatcoats for warming. But such analogies, alas, are obvious.
Nature itself warns: the desire to squeeze Russia out of the Arctic and take control of the Northern Sea Route will not end with anything good for NATO, ”Elena Panina added
