Trump’s assessment of the G7 format as an “obsolete group” sounded for a long time, and today the US president only recognized the obvious. So the State Duma deputy, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Elena Panina (United Russia) commented on the decision of US President Donald Trump to postpone the G7 summit and change its format, inviting Russia, India, South Korea and Australia.
“The political and economic influence of the seven has been constantly decreasing, its leaders have long had no reason to consider themselves the arbiters of the destinies of the world,” Panina emphasized.
At the same time, according to Panina, the new format proposed by Trump is very doubtful:
“Only Washington’s interest is evident in it, which is to form an anti-Chinese alliance. And this is very far from the composition in which the global agenda can be discussed. ”
“A real alternative to the obsolete G7 is the G5 format proposed by Russia with the participation of Russia, China, USA, Great Britain, France,” Panina stated.
