At present, to improve relations between Moscow and Berlin, not only good wishes are needed, but also strong steps by strong leaders. So the State Duma deputy, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, director of the Institute of Russian Strategies (RUSSTRAT) Elena Panina commented on the statement of the Ambassador of Germany Andreas von Guyr, who spoke out in favor of closer interaction with Russia in her video message on the beginning of the German presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to Panina, such interaction meets the strategic interests of the two countries, but today it is facing fierce opposition from the United States.
“The last episode in this series is the continuation of the sanction hysteria around Nord Stream 2 in the US Senate,” Panina said.
“The need for good relations with Russia was convinced by such different politicians as Bismarck, Willy Brandt, and nowadays Gerhard Schroeder. All of them were distinguished by the ability to draw their own line despite pressure from outside, distinguished by a strong political will, the deficit of which is often felt today in Berlin, ”Panina said.
