Sergey Zheleznyak commented on Vladimir Putin’s speech at the UN General Assembly

Russia remains a reliable guarantor of the protection of the system of universal human values, Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told RIA Novosti, commenting on the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.

“Russia, represented by our president, demonstrates that it remains a reliable guarantor of the protection of the system of universal human values. We again propose to destroy barriers to partnership in all spheres of life – from the economy and security system to environmental protection,” Zheleznyak said.

He noted that the President of the Russian Federation appealed to the world with a call for unification, restoration of trust in international relations, rejection of the methods of illegal sanctions, trade wars and political blackmail.

Speaking about the proposals for reforming the UN system, Zheleznyak added that the key international organization is obliged to preserve the content inherent in it, but more actively use more effective instruments of influence, and not just declarations that some countries allow themselves to violate, declaring themselves an exclusive nation.

“As the head of our state noted, the UN should today reflect reality, focus on the multipolarity of the world, provide effective support to countries in protecting their national sovereignty, preserve the unique institution of the veto for the UN Security Council member states,” the deputy stressed.
